A cold or warm machine wash on a gentle cycle works well for most cotton tops, and it helps preserve both the fabric and any embroidery or print details. Tumble dry on low or hang to dry to avoid shrinkage, particularly with 100% cotton and organic cotton styles. High heat is the main thing to avoid. That said, care labels on individual pieces are always worth checking, since cotton blends with modal or Tencel sometimes have slightly different requirements. A little attention at laundry time keeps cotton tops looking their best season after season.
